Homegoing Service for  Mrs. Carolyn Jackson, 68 of Decatur, Alabama will be 11:00 am, Wednesday at King's Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Rodrick Stallworth officiating and inhumation to follow in Sterrs Cemetery.  Mrs. Jackson will lie in repose and only be viewed one hour prior to funeral at the church. 

Carolyn Lavonna Oden Jackson  was the third of three children born to the parentage of the late George and Lillie Oden on January 25, 1948.  August 27, 2016, Carolyn transitioned to her eternal reward at Decatur Morgan Hospital – Parkway Campus.

  Carolyn graduated from East Highland High School (Sylacauga, Alabama) in 1966 and Alabama A&M University in 1970.  She was employed and retired from Monsanto (20+ years); she was also employed at Grays Electronics and Diakin.

  After completing her education, Carolyn married the love of her life, William F. Jackson, Jr.  To this union, three children were born:  William III, LaDon, and Keith.  She was a devoted wife and a loving and caring mother and grandmother.  She united with King’s Memorial Methodist Church under the pastorage of Rev. Wylheme Ragland.

  Carolyn served on various committees in the church:  Trustee, United Methodist Women (Treasurer), Dorcas Circle, and the Chancel Choir.  She was a dedicated and faithful servant who enjoyed doing the work of the Lord.  Her loving spirit, infectious smile, and soft spoken, caring ways warmed the hearts of those she came in contact with.

  Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, George and Lillie Oden; brother, Rudolph Halcombe; brothers-in-law, Curtis Smith and Lewis Coger; sisters-in-law, Donna Oden and Shirley Nevett; nephew, Courtney McKinney; niece, Catherine Swain Oden; father-in-law, William Jackson, Sr.; and mother-in-law, Mattie Pearl Jackson.

  Carolyn will greatly be missed by her special, special nephew, Randy Jackson.  They always burned the phone lines up until the wee hours of the morning.

  Carolyn’s legacy will long be remembered.  Her precious memories and love will linger in the hearts of her devoted husband of 45 years, William Jackson, Jr., and her children Trey (Shana), LaDon (Jackie), and Keith (and friend Christina); one sister, Mildred (Ralph) McKinney; one brother, Willie Joe Oden; four sisters-in-law, Gladys Smith, Elsie Coger, Frances Jackson and Jeannie Halcombe; one brother-in-law, Darrell Jackson; four grandchildren, Haley, Kaylin, Keri Dawn and Keith, Jr., and many other nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, and many other relatives.

No public viewing at the funeral home.
