Reynolds Funeral Home announces with deepest sympathy the passing of Mr. Earnest Sherrod, 67 of Decatur, AL.  Mr. Sherrod passed away Friday, August 25, 2017 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-Parkway Campus. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, 12:00 Noon, at Wheeler Chapel Full Gospel Baptist Church, with Bishop Thomas Davis, Officiating and Interment in Calvary Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. in the  Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel.

Earnest Edward Sherrod Sr. was born on February 2, 1950 to Ranell Sherrod and Lockett Hill Sherrod, in Lawrence County, Alabama.

He attended school in Lawrence County and graduated in 1969 from Tennessee Valley High School. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Wheeler Chapel Full Gospel Church. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Clara B. Smith in 1970.

He was employed by General Motors in 1976 and retired after 30 years of employment.  He enjoyed singing gospel songs, going to church, fishing, wood works and taking care of his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, ReTonya Sherrod; three brothers, Henry, James and David Sherrod.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 46 years, Clara B. Sherrod of Decatur; his children, Gretta Smith of Decatur, Senecia Newman (Christopher) of Atoka, TN, Earnest Sherrod, Jr. (Lakeeta) of Decatur; six grandchildren, Victoria Thomas and Terrance Thomas of Decatur, Maya Newman, Zachary Newman of Atoka, TN, Kendall Sherrod, Keziah Sherrod of Decatur; one brother, Jessie Sherrod Sr., (Connie) of Hillsboro, AL; three sisters, Eleanor Goodlow (Connie), Reba Sherrod, Barbara Sherrod all of Hillsboro, AL; one aunt, Mrs. Hattie Haley; two special cousins, Mrs. Stella Vinson of Cleveland, OH, Mr. David Hill of Birmingham, AL; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers and Flower Bearers will be family and friends.
