J.B Birgans Jr.

Memorial Service for Mr. J.B Birgans, 64 of Hillsboro, Alabama will be noon, Saturday at Reynolds Funeral Home with Elder E. Bernard Birgans officiating.  Inurnment will be at a later date in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.

J. B. Birgans, Jr. was born November 22, 1953 to the late J. B. Birgans, Sr. and Lillie Mae Pointer Birgans in Hillsboro, Alabama. He departed this life on February 27, 2018 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.  He confessed his hope in Christ at an early age and was a member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church. He was 64 years old. He was the fifth oldest of 12 siblings.

He was educated in the Lawrence County School System and graduated from Courtland High School.  Following graduation he gained employment at Monsanto Textile in Decatur, AL. He eventually enlisted in the United States Army where he served four years; subsequently being honorably discharged.  Upon leaving the armed forces he returned to Monsanto where he was employed for several years.  After leaving Monsanto, he worked for Daniel Construction, Union Compress, and other various occupations before becoming totally disabled in 2011.  

J.B. who was affectionately called “Jr” by his family and close friends, loved life and “always” lived life to the fullest.  He would brighten up a room with his affectionate personality and his immensely heartfelt smile warmed the hearts of those he encountered. During his brief illness he managed to sustain an optimistic outlook and kept the faith for a full recovery, but God called.  He will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. 

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: six children, Cedric Birgans (Crystal), Hillsboro, AL, Nicole Birgans Fletcher (Ronald), Chandor Birgans Gladney (Paul), Zedric Birgans (Virginia), JowannaBirgans, Jeremy Peterson (Dana) all from Decatur; 25 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six sisters, Clementine Swoope-Orr (Truel), Trinity AL,  Liliesther Bankhead, Hillsboro AL, LeriaWilkerson and Gleria Anderson (Tommy), both of Huntsville AL, Venetia Watkins (Larry), Hillsboro, AL and Sharon Hosey (Perry) of Elizabethtown KY; five brothers, Tommy Lee Birgans, Courtland, AL, Floyd Birgans (Lillian) Hillsboro, AL, Larry Birgans (Olga) Sacramento, CA, Fredrick Birgans, Irving TX,  and Andrew Bell (Linda), Decatur, AL; four uncles; five aunts;  an adoptive dad and mom, David and Ollie Locklayer; a special friend, Lisa Dortch; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
