Ruth Burt Obituary

A Celebration of Life Service for Ms. Ruth Ann Raybon Burt, 57 of Decatur, AL. will be noon, Friday at St. Stephens P.B. Church with Elder Benjamin Burt officiating and inhumation to follow in Sterrs Cemetery.  The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral.  Public viewing will be Wednesday from 3-7 and Thursday from 10-7 at Reynolds Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends on Thusday from 5:30-6:30 at the funeral home.

Ruth Ann Raybon began her journey of life on February 21, 1960. She was the baby girl of six children born to  Willie “Jake” Raybon and Ethel Mae Swoope Raybon in Decatur, Alabama. Surrounded by her children and siblings, she walked into the light and presence of her God, on February 8, 2018.

Ms. Ann loved the Lord. Her mother instilled in her that she would need someone to lean on and that was Jesus Christ.  As a teenager, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior, under the leadership of Elder Eugene Lewis.  I’m so glad I found HIM,” she said. She loved church and she loved singing. A very active member of St. Stephen P.B. Church, she ministered to others through her gift of song. In the Adult Choir, she worshiped God as she led us in praise with songs; “Walking in the Light,” “Falling in Love with Jesus,” and “It’s Another Day’s Journey”. Sister Burt also served on the Program Committee and in various other capacities.

Ann was educated in the Decatur City School System. She was affectionately known as “Ms. Ann” by the children and faculty at Julian Harris Elementary School, where she worked until her health compelled her retirement.

Ms. Ann was united in Holy Matrimony to Benjamin Burt in Decatur, Alabama, and to this marriage, two children were born. A devoted mother, her greatest joy was her son and daughter, bringing them up in the admonition of the Lord.

Her radiant smile lit up a room and brought a smile to the faces of people she met. Ann’s friends and family will always remember her love, and steadfast faith. She was the glue which held her family together, an encourager, peacemaker, lifting the spirits of all she came in contact.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Joyce Lee Cowley and Janette Mitchell.

She is survived by her two beautiful children, Jeremiah Burt and Santana Burt of Decatur; five caring siblings, Deborah (Pastor James) Robinson of Madison, AL, Myra (Harry) Malone of Decatur, Ollie Richardson, of Tuscumbia, AL, Willie Reece (Lee) Raybon of Decatur, Masinah Frances Trimuel of Huntsville, AL; a niece, Shannon who was reared as a sister; two aunts, Annie Ruth Garner of Decatur and Barbara Raybon of Athens, AL; an uncle, Rufus (Sarah) Raybon of Athens, AL; special friends, Linda A. Wiggins, Coretta Goodloe, Kathryn Fletcher and Lisa Fennel; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, as well as her extended family who loved her dearly, the St. Minor Church Family of Guntersville.
