A Celebration Service for Mr. Al Versity “Redd” Minor, 67 of Decatur will be 2:00pm, Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Macedonia C.P. Church in America with the Reverend Willie B. Jackson officiating. Inhumation with military honors will follow in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5-6 at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Redd was born October 22, 1950 in Decatur, Alabama to the late Mary Doc Foster and Henry Mayes. He departed his life Friday, March 23, 2018 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus.
Minister Minor accepted Christ at an early age at St. James C.P. Church in Decatur, he later joined Westside M.B Church where he became a licensed minister. He currently was a member of St. Peter M.B. Church in Decatur.
After graduating from Lakeside High School in Decatur, AL, Al enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served during Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged November 3, 1970.
He was married to the late Ola Mae ”Lil Bit” Swoopes Minor and this union was blessed with four children, Stephan Bell (Doris), Alma Davis (Mike), Stephen Alexander (Angie), and Ronald Alexander, all of Decatur, Alabama.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Tashanda Renae Harris Minor on June 18, 2016.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Mary Doc Foster and Henry Mayes; siblings, Gelethia Dobbins and Beatrice Petty.
Mr. Minor leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Tashanda Harris Minor and her children, Shakeri Caudle and Zecirah Harris all of Decatur; children, Phyllis Minor of Honolulu, Hawaii, Tony Minor and Cynthia Boykin both of Decatur and Marques Jones of Atlanta, GA; eight-grandchildren; sister, Julia (Larry) Ware of Madison, AL; three aunts, Betty Jean Fennell, Mable Harris and Delilah Fletcher all of Decatur; mother-in-law, Dorothy Harris of Decatur; sisters-in-law, Tara (Ron) Dillard of Decatur, Trenya (Wayne) Taylor of Ferriday, AL; brother-in-law, Billy Joe Harris of Decatur and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Flower bearers will be nieces, granddaughters and friends.
Pallbearers will be Billy Joe Harris, Orlandus Hampton, Marcus Mayes, Antonio Petty, Cornelius Petty and Jimmy “Skipper” Petty.
