Mr. Alonzo Nance 87 of Decatur, the son of the late Mr. Thomas Henry Nance and Annie Coffey Nance Edmonds was born on July 31, 1932 in Decatur, Alabama. He departed this life on September 10, 2019 at River City Center in Decatur, Alabama.
He was a member of Westside Missionary Baptist Church where he was faithful until he became ill.
Mr. Nance was often seen around the neighborhood in his motorized “Cadillac Scooter” which always had his red flag on the back.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Clara Ruth Nance; siblings, Mr. Lucean Smith, Mr. Mitchell A.” Jim” Smith, Mr. James Albert Smith, Mr. Levi Nance, Mr. Thomas Nance, Mr. Eddie Nance.
He leaves to mourn his passing: two loving children, Rance D. Sutherlin (Bonnie) and Doris Ann Franklin (Rev. Edward) both of Decatur; niece and her spouse who were his caregivers, Annie L Wilkerson and Willis E. Wilkerson Jr. both of Decatur; sisters-in-law, Louise Nance of Columbia, MD and Mattie Smith of Mansfield, OH and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Westside Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Sylvester Truss officiating. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral. Family repast will be at Westside M.B. Church-Davis Center at 3:30 p.m. Sunday prior to the funeral. Inhumation will be 10:00 a.m. Monday in Sterrs Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.
