Life is a journey, not a home, a winding road not a city of habitation. The enjoyment and blessings that we have are but little inns on the roadside of life, where we might become refreshed for a brief moment, and with new strength we press onward to the end. Such was a life of Mrs. Darlene Sledge Bowman, who after enjoying a happy, productive, and fruitful life, departed this earth. On Wednesday, July 3, 2019, she moved to a better home
Darlene Sledge Bowman wife, mother, sister, and friend was born December 30, 1957, to the late Mary Tarver Sledge and Joe Sledge Sr. in Birmingham AL. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Joe Sledge Jr.
Darlene decided to follow the everlasting footsteps of her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a former member of Zion Springs Baptist Church in Avondale, AL. and First Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson, TN. She joined and currently served faithfully at David Temple “Word of Faith” Primitive Baptist Church until her health declined.
Darlene attended A.H. Parker High School and later attended UAB, receiving her B.S. in Nursing in 1980.
Upon graduating from UAB, Darlene united in Holy Matrimony to Earmon Wayne Bowman and to this union two children were born. During their marriage they traveled with the military and lived in several areas before settling in Hillsboro to build their forever home.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted husband, Wayne; two beautiful, loving and devoted daughters, Aundria Campbell (Tarrance) and Brianna Bowman both of Hillsboro, AL; three grandchildren, Madison, T.J., and Thomas Riley all of Hillsboro AL; one special grand pet that stayed by her side when she wasn’t feeling well, Tux; two sisters, Deborah Phillips (Thomas) of Birmingham, AL and Doreen Holmes of Chicago, IL; one aunt, Pricilla Sledge of Birmingham, AL; one uncle, Tony Sledge (Francis) of Cincinnati, OH; one brother-in-law, McKinley Bowman Jr. (Damita); two sisters-in-law, Mildred Davis (George) and Linda Austin (Chester) all of Hillsboro, AL.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, others relatives and friends.
