A Celebration of Life for Mr. Dean “BumpCity” Bumpus, 49 of Decatur, AL will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017, 12:00 Noon, at Macedonia C. P. Church in America, with Bishop Thomas D. Strong, Officiating and burial in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to the service. Public viewing will be Friday, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dean Ray Bumpus was born on January 7, 1968 in Morgan County, Alabama to the late Theophilus Bumpus and Ida Mae Bumpus.  He departed this life on August 22, 2017 in Decatur, Alabama.

He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Apostolic Church of God in Decatur, Alabama under the leadership of Elder Finley.He attended schools in the Decatur City School System.

His favorite sport was boxing. He was a member of the Austinville Boxing Club. One of his coaches, Coach de Quesada was quoted as saying “Dean was one of those boxers that when the coaches put him in, it was not a matter of if he would win, but how long it would take.” Life always seemed to be a struggle for him, but he always tried to manage. He loved his family deeply.

Dean was united in Holy Matrimony to Gwendolyn Baugh on March 22, 2001.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Don Bumpus.

Dean leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Gwendolyn Baugh-Bumpus of Decatur; a son, De’Norris Thompson of Decatur; stepdaughter, Evita Young of Decatur; grandson, Eli’Jah Thompson of Decatur; his mother, Ida Mae Bumpus; granddaughters that he helped raise, Samiyah Young, Alexandreah and Azaria Taylor all of Decatur; a sister, Nita Coffey (Troy) of Decatur; a brother, Dale Bumpus; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Pallbearers and Flower Bearers will be family and friends.
