A Celebration of Life for Mr. Deon Charleston Spencer, 54 of Huntsville, AL will be 11:00 AM, Sunday, March 25 , 2018 at New Life Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Michael Ross Sr. officiating. Inhumation will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens. There will no public viewing with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.
Deon was born to the late Wilbert & Muriel Spencer in Hamilton, Bermuda on January 20, 1964. He was the youngest of five children. He joined the Seventh-day Adventist faith during an Oscar Lane revival in Bermuda in his 20’s, and remained faithful until his passing on March 14, 2018, after an
extended illness and courageous battle against pneumonia.
In 1988 he migrated from Bermuda to Huntsville, Alabama, to attend Oakwood College. He graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Marketing. While attending Oakwood, Deon met Annette while they both were employed in the cafeteria. Their relationship started to blossom when she needed a letter mailed, and in true Deon fashion, he offered to deliver it for her. Their courtship was filled with travels and attending events together. They were married in Baltimore, Maryland on December 9, 1990. To this union two beautiful daughters were born: Annette Deanna and Dionne Marie.
Deon was always known as a person with a strong work ethic. It was often joked that his hobby was working either to support his family or his church. He worked as a supervisor for Physical Plant at Oakwood University for many years and after leaving the institution, he started his own business. He managed “A Better Cleaning Service” until his family convinced him to rest in January the day before his initial hospitalization.
Deon remained faithful to his church, New Life, and spent many hours serving in many capacities as Deacon, Personal Ministries Director, Personal Giving Fund (PGF), Sabbath School Superintendent. His passion to make sure the church members had access to devotional books in addition to the latest spiritual literature and games for the whole family.
Deon is survived by his wife Annete Spencer of twenty-seven years; Mother & Step-Father Muriel Bertoli (Pietro); Siblings: Sister Bertina Spencer of Bermuda; Brothers Eugene Spencer (Gail) of George Spencer of Bermuda; Step Sister Glenda Gibson; Children: Annette Deanna and Dionne Marie Spencer of Huntsville, Alabama and a host of extended family membes, co-workers and friends.
