A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Dorothy Jean Bailey Kennedy, 83 of Decatur, AL will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Moulton Heights M.B. Church with the Reverend Herbert Cartwright, Jr. officiating and inhumation in the Decatur City Cemetery. Public viewing will be Thursday 2:00 - 7:00 and Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Family Visitation will be Friday evening October 5, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Dorothy Bailey Kennedy was born on August 22, 1935 in Morgan County to the late John Ed Bailey and Aileen Cater Bailey. She departed this life on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Huntsville Hospital.
She attended Decatur Negro High School in Decatur. She began a long career as a nurse’s aide at Baugh and Wiley Hospital in 1970 and then on to Parkway Medical Center from which she retired and was recognized for more than 20 years of service. She loved working with children and enjoyed her time serving as a foster grandparent from 2014 to 2016. She enjoyed cooking, music, reading, spending time with friends and family, shopping for clothes and shoes, and getting her hair and nails done! Dorothy confessed hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized. She was an only child born to the union of John Ed Bailey and Aileen Cater Bailey.
She married Aaron Kennedy, Sr. on August 17, 1953, and to this union four children were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She leaves to cherish her memory: four children, Diane (Brian) Aldridge-Mahaley, Aaron Jr. (Christine) Kennedy, Lisa (Robert) Jackson and Karen (Aaron) Kennedy; grandsons, Colby (Kim) Jackson, Lewis Jackson, Kevin Jackson, Jamal Kennedy, and Austin Davis; granddaughters, Kyeonna (Dale) Barrett, Keisha Hutton, Victoria Kennedy, Vanessa Kennedy, Erica Davis, and Chelsea Davis; and a host of great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and relatives and friends that will miss her tremendously.
Pallbearers will be Grandsons, Great Grandsons and Nephews. Flower Bearers will be Granddaughters, Great Granddaughters, Nieces.
