Edna Melson Obituary

 A  Celebration of Life Service for  Mrs. Edna M. Melson, 64 of Decatur, Alabama will be noon Saturday at  Union Grove P.B. Church with Dr. George Franklin oficiating.

Edna M. Boyd Melson was born March 7, 1954 in Anderson, Indiana to the late Mary Goolsby Jordan and the late Eugene Woods. Edna graduated from Anderson Senior High School in 1972. She accepted Christ at a very early age. Edna peacefully accepted her wings on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus with her family by her side.

Edna went to work for Delco Remy in 1973. The plant had a layoff giving employees a chance to relocate. In 1984, Edna moved to Decatur, Alabama and began working for Saginaw, which later became Delphi. After 30 years of service with General Motors, she was blessed to retire, hitting the road on numerous occasions enjoying life. Edna joined Union Grove P.B. Church where she was a very faithful member. She was president of the usher board and served as a Vacation Bible School teacher. On Family and Friends Day, she would always have the most guests, winning the grand prize of “I Brought the Most Guests on Church Anniversary” every year. Many knew Edna had a passion for softball and entertaining family and friends. She never had a dull moment and infected us with her laughter.

“EP” as she was affectionately known, was a mother, aunt and granny to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents

She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Nia Malika Bone (Franklin) of Huntsville; her son, Larry Cooley, Jr (Keysa) of Decatur; seven grandchildren, Sharmond Patterson, Deatrich Patterson, Mya Patterson, Jayla Goode, A’nari Goode, Larry J. Coley, A’zarien Cooley; a stepson, Larry King of Nashville, TN; five step-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; a godson, Brian Armstrong of Anderson, IN; sisters, Rosemary Pointer, Georgia Jordan, Marilyn Jordan of Decatur, Dorothy J. Woods, Anita Woods, Margie Woods, Barbara Woods, Elsie Woods, Gloria Woods, Christie Woods (Rodney) Woodall, Christina Woods, Crystal Woods, Regina Woods of Anderson, IN, Lisa Woods, Natalie Woods of Birmingham, AL; brothers, Larry Goolsby, Timothy (Angela) Jordan of Decatur, Kenneth (Mar Jean) Morrow, Eugene Woods, Jr., Narron Woods of Anderson, IN; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss her greatly.
