A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Mrs. Emma Jean Thorne Cohen, 74 of Hillsboro, AL. on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Bethlehem P.B. Church in Hillsboro, AL with the Elder Antwon Plott, officiating and interment in the Decatur City Cemetery-Sterrs Addition. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to the funeral. Family visitation will be Friday, 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Reynolds Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Public viewing will be Thursday, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm, and Friday, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm.
Emma Jean Cohen was born on January 1, 1945 to the late Charlie Thorne and Annie Mae Briskell Thorne in Sheffield, Alabama. She departed this life on March 11, 2019 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus.
She attended Courtland High School. After completing school she was employed at Prestolite Electric for 29 years as a Press Operator and then later worked on the assembly line.
Mrs. Cohen accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mt. Zion M.B. Church. She later moved her membership to Bethlehem P.B. Church where she was a member for over 55 years. She was a member of the Sister’s Aid Society, Senior Usher Board and served faithfully until her health began to fail. She was united in marriage to Pervis Cohen and to this union four children were born. Mrs. Cohen loved visiting and cooking for the sick. She was a very loveable person that LOVED THE LORD.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Willie B. and Earl Thorne; and a son, Levert Cohen.
Mrs. Emma leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Jacqueline Easley of Decatur, AL, Tracy Cohen (Larry) of Birmingham, AL; son, David Cohen (Deanna) of McDonough, GA; stepson, Ronnie Cohen (Lucy) of Hillsboro, AL; grandchildren, Mon’travia Watkins and Christopher Jones, whom she raised, Buford Cowley, Jessica Cowley, Yvonne Harris, Dreanna Cohen, Dayla Cohen, Myosha Cohen, Miracle Taylor, Daniel and Dominique Joseph; sisters, Judy Ann Birgans and Annie Lee Brown; brothers, Jake Thorne, Robert Lee Thorne, Charles Thorne and Tames Clyde Thorne; 2 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; special friends, Willie Smith of Nashville, TN and Cylesteen Toney.
Pallbearers and Flower Bearers will be Church Members and Friends.
