Evelyn Denetta Caldwell passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her family on Monday March 13th, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
Robert and Omelia Davis Jackson welcomed their 16th child Denetta into the family on July 16, 1943. She accepted Christ as a child and joined David Temple Primitive Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Alabama. As an adult she became a missionary at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ in Decatur, Alabama. Later in life she joined Church of Christ at the Boulevard in Cleveland, Ohio and Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Roswell, Georgia. She studied the word of God and welcomed every opportunity to share the word with others.
She graduated with pride from segregated all black Lakeside High School where she was a cheerleader and Delorn Caldwell was on the debate team. The high school sweethearts married and 10 children were born to this union. Monique, John and Charles preceded her in death as infants.
She followed in her mother's footsteps making beautiful fashionable clothing, cooking soulful tasty food and caring for others. She took care of her sister, nephew and ailing parents until they went home to be with the Lord.
She was employed as a secretary for Community Action Agency and Speakin’ Out News in Decatur, Alabama. Working for others did not work for Denetta. She opened a day care center and operated it for more than 15 years. She worked as a teacher's aide in the Cleveland school district.
