A Celebration of Life for Mr. James Norman Sharpley, 78 of Moulton, Alabama will noon Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Freeman Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Timothy Perryman officiating and inhumation in Moulton Memory Gardens. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral. Public viewing will be from 2:00-7:00 at Reynolds Funeral Home.
James Norman Sharpley was born March 17, 1940 in Nashville, TN to the late Lafrances Sharpley and Bobbie Owens Sharpley. He departed this life on November 18, 2018 at Lawrence Medical Center in Moulton, Alabama.
Norman as he was called by all that knew him accepted Christ at an early age and joined Freeman Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was a faithful member. He had served for many years as a Sunday school teacher.
Mr. Sharpley was a 1958 graduate of Moulton High School where he was an excellent basketball player which earned him a scholarship to Alabama A&M College. He was inducted in 2011 into the Lawrence County Sports Hall of Fame.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Lafrances Sharpley and Bobbie Owens Sharpley; four brothers, Edward Sharpley, Frank Sharpley, John Wright Sharpley and Earl Sharpley; two step-sisters, Cathy Tapscott and Sandra McDaniel, a devoted uncle and aunt, Esper and Willie Bayless who reared him.
He is survived by: his wife, Marion L. Jackson Sharpley; two children, Patrick (Cynthia) and Sondra E Johnson (Karl); one grandchild, Falon Sloan Sharpley all of Moulton; one brother, Billie (Andrea) Sharpley, Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Doris Sharpley Orr, Hartselle, Ala., and Calden Moye, Virginia Beach, Va.; step-sisters, Madlyn Taylor of Decatur, the Rev. Carol Franklin (the Rev. Willie B.) of Athens; three sister-in-law, Ollie Young of Oxford, OH, Louise Jackson and Doris Jackson both of Moulton; two special friends, the Rev. Timothy and Katherine Perryman of Huntsville; two special grandkids, Ariell and Austin Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
