A Celebration of Life for Mr. John Thomas McGuire, 81 will be noon Friday, September 21, 2018 at Wheeler Chapel Full Gospel Church with Bishop Thomas Davis officiating. Inhumation will follow in Owens Cemetery in Courtland. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-7 at Reynolds Funeral Home. Public viewing will be Thursday from 10-6 at the funeral home.
Mr. John Thomas McGuire was born in Lawrence County, Alabama on July 26, 1937 to the late Jake McGuire and Addie Mae Owens. He departed this life on September 17, 2018 at River City Rehabilitation Center in Decatur, Alabama.
In 1972, Mr. McGuire relocated to Chattanooga, TN where he was employed by U.S. Pipe and Foundry. He retired after several years of dedicated service. In 2016 he moved back to Decatur, Alabama to be closer to his family.
He accepted Christ and an early age and joined Wheeler Chapel Baptist Church. After returning to Alabama, he reunited with Wheeler Chapel Full Gospel Church under the leadership of Bishop Thomas Davis.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Addie Mae Goodlow and Jake McGuire; his daughters, Jean Ashford, Katherine Scruggs Sanders, Marilyn McGuire Griffin; two, grandchildren Brittney Mitchell and Lazandra McGuire; one great-great grandchild, Kylan Smith; grandmother, Analizer Jones; and one aunt, Louisa “Brownie” Bates.
He leaves to cherish his memory: children, the Reverend Charles Cooper (Gwendolyn), Carl Preston Cooper (Loretta), Geraldine Goode, Eloise Allen (Phillip), Addie Sue Foster, Minister Victoria Gray (the Rev. Elijah), Thomas McGuire, Johnny Jones , Nikia Gatson, Ethel Hood, McKinley McGuire, Phyllis McGuire Hampton (Roy), and his ex-wife, Mary Hood Cohn; 36 grandchildren, 76 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.. He also leaves a host of extended family, cousins, and friends.
