A Celebration of Life for Mr. Johnnie Walter Simpson, 83 of Hillsboro will be noon, Tuesday at Wheeler Chapel with Pastor Leo Owens officiating. Inhumation will follow in Decatur City Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The pubic may view Mr. Simpson on Sunday and Monday from 2-6 at the funeral home.
Mr. Johnnie Walter Simpson was born on July 20, 1934 in Hillsboro Alabama to John and Annie D. Simpson. He departed this life on July 4, 2018 in Huntsville, Alabama.
Johnnie accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at First Missionary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Alabama and later joined Victory Christian Center, Hillsboro, Alabama.
Johnnie attended Tennessee Valley High School. Johnnie was employed by Wolverine Tube Division for 25 years and also worked 50 years for Hillsboro Gin.
Johnnie loved gathering with family, friends and sharing those special weekend fish fry’s. He loved working on things and spending time on his tractor.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his father and mother, one daughter Carolyn Simpson Crayton and two sons, Walter and Kenneth Simpson.
Johnnie leaves to cherish his loving memory: his wife of 63 years, Mattie; a precious and adorable, daughter Charlotte Simpson of Hillsboro, AL; two sons, Maurice Simpson of Moulton, AL and Jeffery (Jennifer) of Decatur, AL; a beloved brother, Freddie (Exodys) Simpson of Hillsboro, AL; two daughters in-law, Mary Simpson of Decatur, AL and Sharon Simpson of Hillsboro, AL; four brothers in-law, Charles (Eva) Owens of Hillsboro, AL, Nathan Owens of Decatur, AL, Hayward Owens of Harvest, AL, and James Cooper of Buffalo, NY; four sisters in-law, Alma Boyd, Minnie Garner both of Hillsboro, AL, Shelia Singleton and Elizabeth Walker both of Buffalo, NY; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
