Johnny Gaiter

 A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. James CP Church, on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Michael Jones, Officiating and Interment in Sterrs Cemetery. Family visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the funeral home.

Johnny Ray Gaiter was born February 21, 1957 to the late Edna Mae Jones and Tommie H. Gaiter. He departed this life on Monday, June 4, 2018. Mr. Gaiter accepted Christ at an early age and was a 1976 graduate of Decatur High School.

He was a 19-year employee of Dunlop in Madison, AL until their closing. In 2003, Johnny received a certificate in heating and air conditioning from Drake State Community and Technical College. In 2004, he began working as maintenance supervisor at Hampton Inn in Madison, Al until his passing.

Johnny never met a stranger, he helped others every chance he got, and he was loved by all who had the privilege of being in his presence..

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Essie Lee McDaniel, Minister Bettie Jean Gaiter-Grizzard and Tomella Gaiter-Sykes; a loving godmother, Louise Clopton-Dillard.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Sheresa Gaiter, Decatur, Monica Miller, Birmingham, AL; two sons, Johnny D. Gaiter, Decatur, AL Jeremy Gaiter, Florence, AL; a devoted companion, Charlotte Gibson and children, Ashley, Twalisha, Breanna and Daniel Gibson all of Madison, AL two sisters, Mary Gaiter-Amerson, Emma Gaiter, Decatur; five brothers, Richard Jones (Louise), Tommie Lee Gaiter, Sr., Willie Edward Gaiter, Sr. (Shirley), Milton Ray Gaiter and Von Leon Gaiter, all of Decatur; 11 grandchildren; two aunts, Helen Gaiter-Jones, Chicago, IL and Mary Alice Davis of Moulton, AL; brother-in-law, Tommy Sykes; special family members, the children of the late John and Clara Slaughter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers; a very special brother and friend, Tyrone McDaniel.

Pallbearers will be William Gaiter, Daniel Gibson, James Turner, Jr., Ryan Gibson, Byron Sykes and Don Mitchell and Flower Bearers will be classmates from the Class of 1976.
