Joseph Green was born August 23, 1939 in Limestone County, Alabama to the later Silas Green and Lizzie Erskine.  He transitioned into eternal life on October 28, 2017 at the Parkway Campus of Decatur Morgan Hospital.

Joseph was a hard worker that was employed with the Decatur Housing Authority as a Maintenance worker for 22 years.

Bro. Joseph Green confessed hope in Christ and joined St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur where he was a dedicated member, custodian for over 20 years and a faithful member of the male chorus.

Joseph was united in holy matrimony to Sondra Rather Green who preceded him in death.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Mr. Green leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Sharon (Alfred, deceased) Lavelle, Leslie Matthews; one son, Lowell Matthews all of Decatur; 14 grandchildren, Tara Spinks, Makeba Miller, Damon (Myisha) Miller, Zetta (Glendrick) Hayes, Desmond Lavelle, Cameron Matthews, Teressa Matthews, the Reverend Shannon (Brianne) Cockrell, Joseph Cockrell, Adrian Matthews, Jessica Matthews, Julia Matthews, Jordan Frasier and Bryce Matthews; one brother, Thomas (Diane Jolly); and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins , other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Joseph Green, 78 of Decatur will be noon Friday, November 3, 2017 at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Shannon Cockrell officiating and the Rev. Jerry Baker, host pastor.  Inhumation will follow in Rather Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to funeral at the church.  Public viewing will be Wednesday from 2:00 PM-6:00 PM and Thursday from 10:00 PM-6:00 PM at Reynolds Funeral Home.
