A Celebration of Life Mrs. Mattie Carthen Williams, 88 of Montgomery, AL and formerly of Belle Mina, AL will be noon, Monday at Bethlehem P.B. Church in Greenbrier, AL with Elder Ben Taylor officiating and Elder Joe H. Cater host pastor. Inhumation will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral. Public viewing will be Saturday from 2-6 and Sunday from 1-6 at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Mother Mattie Mae Williams’ nicknames “Princess” was born January 9, 1930 to the late Carl Carthen and Mattie Crutcher Carthen in Limestone County, Alabama. She departed this life on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 5:00 am at her residence in Montgomery, Alabama.
She married the late Elder Robert Lee Williams in 1949.
Mother Williams joined the Mt. Zion CPCA Church in Mooresville, Alabama before relocating to Louisville, KY, with her family and then became a member of St. Elizabeth Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Arnett Mitchell. She remained there as a faithful member until her husband, the late Rev. Robert Lee Williams was called to preach and asked to be the Shepherd over Sweetleaf P.B. Church. She then was an usher until called to serve as a Mother. She moved to live with her daughter due to her health declining. She remained there until God said “Come on home my good and faithful Servant.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; siblings, Carl Carthen, Louise Peoples and James Carthen.
She is survived by her children: Tommie Brown (Beatrice), Robert Williams Jr (Diane), Georgia Crawford (Kenneth), Martha Williams; grandchildren, Charles Kimbrough Jr., Annetta Cook, Ronald McKinley, Christel Drew, Robert Lee Williams III, Terrance Samuel, Tammy Brown, Tommy Brown, Lisa Brown; great-grandchildren, Alexis Morgan, Denisha Morgan, Charles Anthony Kimbrough, Charnasia Kimbrough, Charlise Kimbrough, Brendan McKinley, Katelyn McKinley; siblings, Dan Carthen, Georgia Ann Ayers, Miller Carthen, Mary Lee Short; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives
