Reynolds Funeral Home announces with deepest sympathy the passing of Mr. Ray Lorenzo Gaines, 67 of Decatur, AL.  Mr. Gaines passed away on June 4, 2017 at Decatur Morgan Hospital- Decatur General Campus. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at Macedonia C.P. Church in America, with the Rev. Dr. G. Lynne Herring, officiating and burial in the Decatur City Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to the service.

Ray Lorenzo Gaines was born August 21, 1949 to the late Dorothy Thompson Gaines and Roy L. Gaines, in Morgan County, Alabama.

He accepted Christ at an early age and attended King’s Memorial United Methodist Church. Ray attended the Decatur City Schools, graduating from Lakeside High School in 1967. He also attended Alabama A&M University, where he studied Mechanical Engineering. Ray entered the Air Force where he became a Staff Sergeant. After leaving the military he was employed at Monsanto and then later at Daikin of America.

He enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was a quiet, gentle, humorous, loving man who never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Myrtle Thompson and Ollie Mae Bowman.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted  wife of 44 years, Mollie “Annette” Gaines of Decatur; daughters, Tameka Goode, Tasha Green (Adrian) both of Decatur; son, Ramon Gaines (Elsa) of Decatur;  son-in-law, Emmitt Goode III of Decatur; brother, Darnell Ellison (Maxine) of Decatur; half-brother, Eric Dancy (Chandra) of Decatur; sister, Donna Young (Rodney) of Decatur; uncle, Johnny Thompson of Decatur; mother-in-law, Mollie Thomas of Decatur; sister-in-law, Jackie Fletcher (Tommy) of Atlanta, GA; two brothers-in-law, Bobby and George Thomas of Decatur; five grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Lakeside High School Class of 1967. Flower Attendants will be Lakeside High School Class of 1967.
