February 28, 1947 ~ July 2, 2017 (age 70) 70 Years OldCelebration of Life Service for Mr. Samuel Lee Billings will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at 12:00 Noon, at First Missionary Baptist Church of Courtland, Alabama with the Reverend O. C. Neloms, Officiating and interment in Courtland Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to the service. Public viewing will be Thursday, 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Samuel Lee Billings was born on February 28, 1947 in Courtland, Alabama to the late Prince Lee Ashford and Aubrey and Mandy Mae Vinson Billings. He departed this life on July 2, 2017 at Decatur Morgan Hospital - Parkway Campus.
He accepted Christ at an early age and united with First Missionary Baptist Church in Courtland, Alabama, where he served faithfully in the mass choir and the male chorus.
He was a grave digger for many of the funeral homes in the area, and also a volunteer fireman. His family and friends would tell you that he was an excellent cook. Many people raved about his chicken and dressing. He never met a stranger and loved talking to people.
Mr. Billings was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence Ashford, Bobby Vinson, Howard Billings, James Billings, Clendon Billings and Connie Billings.
He is survived by: his wife, Sharon Billings of Knoxville, TN; two daughters, Selina Billings of Hartselle, AL and Annette Orr of Courtland, AL; five sons, Christopher (Shelia) Billings of Huntsville, Al, Samuel (Chiquita) Billings of Foley, AL, James Goode of Decatur, AL, Gregory Billings and David Billings of Hartselle, AL; 20 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; three sisters, Bernice Harris of Courtland, AL, Cheralene (John) Patterson of Chattanooga, TN and Carrie Ann Chivers of Augusta, GA; two brothers, Larry (Brenda) Ashford and Anthony (Pat) Ashford both of Chattanooga, TN; a special friend, Tommy Lee Birgans; a host of sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Active Pallbearers will be North Courtland Fire Department, Honorary Pallbearers will be grandsons, Dustin Billings and Justin Billings. Flower Bearers will be granddaughters and nieces.
