A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018, 3:00 p.m., at First M. B. Church in Hartselle, Alabama with The Reverend Billy Ray Young, Officiating and Interment in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to the service. Public viewing will be Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Mr. William “Rit” Lampkin, was born April 28, 1948, in Morgan County Alabama to Lewis Lampkin, Jr. and Foree Sharpley Lampkin. Deacon Lampkin transition from this life on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Rit confessed his life to Christ and became a member of Hartselle First Missionary Baptist Church. He was later ordained as a Deacon. He served faithfully on the Usher Board and regularly attended Sunday school and worship services.
He enjoyed fishing and watching football. He was active in the Hartselle Community by participating in the Optimistic Youth Services, S.P.U.D.S, Community Task Force and a member of the Alabama Democratic Conference. He was recently awarded the Humanitarian Award from the Morgan County Community Task Force for his efforts during the SPUDS program and early years of working with the task force.
Rit attended Morgan County Training School where he played football. Mr. Lampkin retired from Fruehauf after 30 plus years of service.
Rit was married to Delois Tucker and to this union William Tyrone and Rodney were born. He later married Geraldine Morris Lampkin and this union was blessed with one child, Tomika. Betsy Campbell was William Tyrone Campbell’s mother.
Mr. Lampkin was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Doyle (Honk); sister, Carolyn Lampkin Muhammad (Tip); Grandparents, Lewis Lampkin, Sr., Madgie Lampkin, Thurman Sharpley, and Samella Sharpley.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 10 years, Marcie Drummond Lampkin, Hartselle; children, William Tyrone Lampkin of Decatur, Rodney (Toya) Lampkin, William Tyrone Campbell; Tomika (Pernell) Lampkin all of Hartselle, Alexandria Drummond and Gracie Denney of Cullman, James (Faye) Morris, Michael (Christi) Morris of Hartselle, Carolyn Morris and Jacqueline Morris both of Smyrna, GA; brothers, James (Trulla) Lampkin, Paul Lampkin both of Decatur; sister, Sharon (Dwayne) Hunter, Douglasville, GA; two special grandchildren that he helped raise; Raigan Lampkin and Jaylin Taylor; mother-in-law, Angie Oaks (Rick Leipert); sister and brother-in-law, Steven and Tracey O’Brien, Walter, AL; loving aunts, Christine Allen, Bobbie Smith, Syronda Smith; a very best friend, Norman Guthrie; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other aunts, cousins, relatives and friends.
Active Pallbearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church. Honorary Pallbearers will be Elon Orr, Donnie Cowley, Rosheed Young, Mike Garner, Kenny Orr and Fred Chatman, Active Flower Bearers will be Candi Orr, Selena Billings, Poashon Wynn and Erita Allen. Honorary Flower Bearers will be Mothers of First M.B. Church.
