Memorial service for Mr. Anthony Batts, 69 of Decatur Alabama will be 3:00 PM Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Newcomb Street Church of Christ.
Anthony Lamar Batts was born on January 30, 1951 to Esther L. Batts and Percy Williams in Decatur, AL. He entered eternity on April 11, 2020 at his residence in Decatur, AL with his family by his side.
Anthony accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at a young age and was added to the body of Christ at Newcomb Street Church of Christ Decatur, AL. Because he loved to travel he placed memberships at Liberty Church of Christ in Savannah, GA as well as Southside Church of Christ in Spokane, WA where he was a song leader.
Anthony was a 1969 graduate of Lakeside High School, Decatur, AL where he played Varsity Football and sang in the choir. Anthony had ambitions to serve his country in the US Airforce, to travel the world as a Pilot. Unfortunately, due to health issues he was not able to live that dream, he instead went on to attend Alabama State University and Calhoun Community College.
He was united in marriage to Linda F. Brown on June 1970, and to this union three children were born, Brandon, Anthony Jr. and Erika.
Anthony was employed with Spokane Transit Authority for 17 years as a motor coach operator until the family relocated to Decatur. He later retired from Morgan County Transit Authority once his health declined.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, Esther Batts and Percy Williams, his mother and father in-law, John and Evelyn Williams, a sister, Ann C. Watkins, two brothers-in-law, Robert Watkins and Charles Brown, a niece, Yolanda (Chelle) Marrow, and a nephew, Roderick Brown.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Linda Brown-Batts, Decatur, AL; two sons, Brandon (Amanda), Spokane, WA and Anthony Jr. Decatur, AL; a daughter, Erika (Melvin) Decatur, AL; an adopted daughter, Shalece (Greg), Athens, AL; 15 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Cerissa (Ike) Lockett, Decatur, AL and Susan Williams, Decatur, AL; one brother, Randy (Pam) Woodruff, Madison, AL; four brothers-in-law, Erskin (Olivia) Brown, Athens, AL, Dennis (Debbie) Brown, Tony Brown, and John Williams of Decatur; four sisters-in-law, Lafreda James; Cathy (Rickey) Miller, and Sandra Garth all of Decatur, AL, Jennifer (Marlow) Parker, Madison, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
