Mr. Archie O. Elliott, Jr., was born on August 22, 1943, to the late Archie O. Elliott, Sr., and Annie (Stewart) Elliott. Archie was born and raised in Decatur, Alabama, and graduated from Lakeside High School in 1961. After graduating high school, Archie joined the United States Air Force, where he worked as an airplane mechanic. Archie spent several years in the Philippians during his time in the service. After serving twenty years in the military, he retired and moved to Sacramento, California, where he worked for the United States Postal Service for twenty years. Archie eventually met and married his wife, Yvonne Potts Elliott, on May 21, 1999. In 2006, Archie wanted to move back to his home state, so he and Yvonne packed up and moved to Decatur, Alabama.
Archie loved to collect coins and spent his days watching the “Idiot Tube” as he would call it, watching CNN and MSNBC. He also loved to dance and anyone who has ever seen him dance knew he had a style of his own.
Archie was also very good with his hands. He was experienced in building and electrical work. In 1979, while in the military in Sacramento, he created an engine test cell that was used to test T-37 aircraft engines. Archie recruited two of his friends to help him with the construction and engineering. At that time, it was the only test cell of its kind in the Air Force. Prior to Archie’s idea/ invention, all T-37 engines were sent to Williams AFB in Arizona. ¬ They even wrote an article about his accomplishment in a local Sacramento, California, newspaper called “Wing Tips” that was published May 25, 1979.
Archie had a great heart. His family and friends meant the world to him. Over the years he stayed in touch with many of his military friends and his high school classmates; he served as a committee member for the Lakeside High School reunions. He would host family reunions at his family’s home house, because he enjoyed being around family and bringing them together.
Archie was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Joseph Elliott, Clara Slaughter, Earl Elliott, Carolyn Mosely, and Charles Elliott.
Archie leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Yvonne Potts Elliott; five children, Regina Elliott of Sacramento, CA, Suzie King of Fontana, CA, Archie W. Elliott of Las Vegas, NV, Antoinette Martin of Atlanta, GA, and Latisha Hendon of Sacramento, CA; beloved sister, Glenda Stevenson of Decatur, AL; brother, the Reverend Adolphis Elliott of New Market, AL; maternal aunt, Willie Earlene Stewart of Chicago, IL; eighteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
