Funeral Service for Mrs. Barbara Nunery,75, of Decatur, AL. will be noon Thursday October 9, 2025 at Macedonia C.P. Church in America with Dr. G. Lynne Herring officiating. Inhumation will follow in Sterrs Cemetery. Mrs. Nunery will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Wednesday from 1:00PM until 5:00PM at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Barbara Fuqua Nunery, a cherished wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, and joyful great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home on October 2, 2025. Born in August 5, 1950 in Decatur, Alabama, Barbara was the daughter of the late Louis Fuqua, Sr. and Willie Louise Wheeler Fuqua Her gentle spirit, unwavering strength, and nurturing heart leave behind a legacy that will continue to bloom in the lives of all who knew and loved her.
She graduated from Lakeside High School and went on to attend Calhoun Community College, where she laid the foundation for a life of hard work, perseverance, and quiet excellence. Barbara was known for her dedication and resilience throughout her working years, always giving her best and inspiring others with her grace and humility. After retirement, Barbara found her greatest joy in the simple, beautiful moments spent with family. She had a deep love for gardening—planting, nurturing, and watching things grow gave her peace and purpose. Her green thumb was matched only by her ability to cultivate love and connection among those around her. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth, laughter, and wisdom.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Larry Nunery, her children, Angela Fuqua (Christopher Mack) and Tyrantz Fuqua; her stepchildren, Shelaine Ford and Harold Nunery; and her grandchildren, Doritha Fuqua (Tony), Marqus Fuqua (Tedria), Jacques Fuqua, Terrence Swoopes (Kourtney), and Emmanuel; her love extended to her step-grandchildren, Secunda Hailey and Larissa Nunery; great-grandchildren, Jakya, Avantae, Bella, Nivea, Camari, Destiny, Gary, and Ja’Layah; and step great-grandchildren, Sekeda, Kausanna, Donesha, Jestini, and Montrell. seven step great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Sandra Fuqua (Tim); her beloved aunt, Minne Wheeler; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Barbara’s life was a garden of love—rooted in faith, blossoming with kindness, and tended with care. Her legacy is one of quiet strength, deep compassion, and unwavering devotion to family. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to grow in every flower planted, every story shared, and every act of love passed down through generations.
