Betty Lewis Obituary

Funeral Service for Ms. Betty Jean Cotton Lewis, 85, of Decatur, AL. will be noon Thursday February 12, 2026 at Reynolds Funeral Home. Inhumation will follow in Calvary Memorial Gardens. Ms. Lewis will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Wednesday February 11, 2026, from 1:00PM until 4:00PM at Reynolds Funeral Home. 

Betty Jean Lewis was born on September 16, 1940 in Macomb, Mississippi and her journey ended on this earth to her Heavenly reward on January 30, 2026 at River City Center, Decatur, AL.  She lived a life marked by dedication to her family, her faith and her community.

The family moved to Chicago in 1948 where she attended Shakespeare Public School and graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1958.

Betty devoted 28 years of service to AT&T formerly Illinois Bell, where her commitment and work ethics left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike. Her professional life was characterized by reliability and perseverance—qualities that extended into every aspect of her life.

A woman of deep faith, Betty was an active and cherish member of Monument of Faith World Ministries Chicago,IL under the leadership of Apostle Richard D Henton. She served faithfully as an usher, choir member and contributed generously behind the scenes as part of the kitchen and banquet staff.  Her involvement in the church’s Big Brother Mentors Program, reflected her nurturing spirit and desire to uplift others.  Whether she was welcoming congregants with a warm smile or preparing meals and decorating the banquet hall for church events, Betty gave of herself whole heartedly. 

She was preceded in death by: her mother, Lucille Cotton; brothers, George Western Sr. and Alvin U Hunt and niece,  Lytrise Shingles. 

Betty will always be cherished and remembered by: daughter Francoisee Renee Lewis of Decatur, AL; grandson, Fabian J Lewis (Elizabeth) of Chicago, IL; great grandsons, Jehad Zatar and

Kareem Zatar; sister-in-law, Debbie Hunt of Tulsa, OK; nephews and nieces, George Western Jr. (Lawanda)  Chicago,IL, Alaina Hunt, Corey Hunt both of Tulsa, OK and a host of great and great-great nephews and nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.  

Those who knew Betty will remember her as a care giving and loving woman whose presence brought comfort and joy to many.

May her memory bring peace and strength to all who were touched by her life.
