Betty Jean (Shackelford) Pointer

Celebration of Life for Mrs. Betty Jean Shackelford Pointer will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, 12:00 Noon, at David Temple Word of Faith Church in Hillsboro, AL, with Bishop Curtis Foster, officiating and interment in Calvary Memorial Gardens. Public viewing will be Sunday, 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Monday, 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home.

Mrs. Betty Jean Shackelford Pointer was born on November 28, 1937 to the late June and Luella Garth Shackelford in Lawrence County, AL. She departed this life early morning on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus in Decatur, AL.

Betty accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She was a member of David Temple Word of Faith Church until her declining health. She served faithfully in the following: Choir, Usher Board and Kitchen Committee. Mother Betty loved to cook and serve. She will lovingly be remembered for her signature caramel cakes. She was steadfast and unmovable in her faith and always thankful. But, relentlessly saying "I can Pay my way". Betty was employed as a domestic worker for private homes.

Betty Jean Shackelford was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Clarence Lee Pointer, Sr., along with son, Aundra Shackelford. To this union three children were born.

Lost and Found: In 2001, Betty, Ed, Ernest and Christine discovered that they had five other siblings. These five siblings were from their mother, Luella Garth Shackelford Smith and Andrew John Smith (Bobby Jean, Lynda, Denise, John Earl and Darnel)

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Aundra Shackelford; brothers, Ernest and Council Shackelford and beloved cousin and friend Louise Goodlow.

Survivors include: son, Clarence  Pointer Jr. (Michelle) of Rosamond, CA; daughters, Barbara Jean Sykes (Gerry) of Decatur, AL and Gloria Denise Pointer of Hillsboro, AL; grandchildren, Enrique, Elijah, Gerry Jr, and Ashley; great-grandson, Javin; brothers, Elder Eddie Shackelford of Hillsboro, AL, Aldoff Shackelford, Collis Shackelford (Lucy) and Levert Shackelford (Sharon) all of Decatur, AL, John Earl Smith and Darnell Smith of Memphis, TN; sisters, Christine Shackelford Jackson (Theron) of Columbia, MD, Lynda Smith McKinney, Bobby Jean Smith Hicks and Denise Smith McKinney all of Memphis, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be: Ronnie Goodlow, Terry Goodlow, Donal Johnson, Karl Johnson, Lazarus Peoples, Oneal Shackelford, Larry Torrain and Exon Williams. Floral Bearers will be: Paris Davis, Pat Shackelford-Gray, Brittney Green, Deloris Goodlow-Henry, Pearl Smith-Russell, Lisa Shackelford, Shatina Shackelford and Barbara Williams.
