Funeral Service for Mr. Billy Pitts,92, of Somerville, Alabama will be noon, Sunday at Mt. Zion C.P.C.A. with the Rev. James Robinson officiating. Inhumation will follow in Calvary Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Saturday from noon until 4:00PM at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Deacon Billy Joe Pitts was born on May 13, 1932, in Morgan County, to the late Emma Percy and the late Sylvester Pitts. He departed this life on July 9, 2024 at the Decatur Health and Rehab Center.
Deacon Billy Joe Pitts confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was baptized and served under the leadership of the following churches; Pastor Walter Battle of Love Chapel CME Church; Pastor Gurley Woods of Ward Chapel in Somerville, AL; Springhill M.B.Church, currently known as El Shaddai, where Bishop John Z. Gray is the Pastor. He later united with Mt. Zion CPCA Church under the leadership of Pastor James Robinson, where he served as a Deacon and on the Men’s Ministry until his health declined.
Deacon Billy Joe Pitts worked at the Trinity Rock Quarry in Trinity, AL for many years, he then went to work at Goodyear Tire andRubber Company in Decatur, AL where he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mother Queen Esther Pitts; one son, Billy Joel Pitts, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory; two sons, Willie Pitts of Burling, WS and David Pitts of Somerville, AL; two daughters, Sheila Lewis and Doris Holland, both of Decatur; ten grandchildren; six great
grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Minister Mattie Lewis, Pastor Mary (Eddie) Marshall, Pastor Gloria (Harold) Pearson, all of Decatur and Pastor Benita (Dwight) Owens of Hillsboro, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
