Funeral Service for Mr. Billy Joe Thompson, 65, of Decatur, Alabama will be 1:00PM Friday in Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Thompson will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Thursday from 1:00PM until 5:00PM at Reynolds Funeral Home.

Billy Joe Thompson was born in Morgan County, AL on March 11, 1960 to the late Mary Louise Ellison and the late Earnest Lee Thompson Sr.  Billy Joe was called home to eternal rest on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Decatur Morgan Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Billy Joe accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and carried a quiet but steadfast faith throughout his life.

Billy Joe was educated in the Morgan County School System and went on to dedicate 30 plus years of his life to the craft of carpentry. He was known throughout the community as a skilled craftsman whose hands could build anything. His work can still be seen in homes and buildings throughout the community.

One of Billy Joe’s greatest joys was spending time outdoors, especially fishing where he found peace, patience and plenty of good stories. He also loved riding around the community on his bike, waving at neighbors and enjoying the simple pleasures of the day. It was his way of staying connected to the world and the people he loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Ellison Jr; and one niece, Tiffany Thompson.

Billy Joe leaves to cherish his loving memory: five sisters; Ruby Ellison, Annie Lois Powell (Harry), Virginia Thompson, Joann Thompson, and Lynn Thompson; six brothers, George Ellison (Mary), Earnest Thompson (Shonna), Larry Thompson, Bruce Allen (Cynthia), Don Thompson, and Jamor Thompson; A devoted special friend, Monica Matthews, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends
