She attended and graduated from Austin High School, then proudly continued her education at Calhoun Community College, where she earned her cosmetology license and business degree.

A loving mother, grandmother, dedicated community member, and cherished friend, Carolyn passed away at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama, on December 12, 2025, at the age of seventy-four.

Carolyn gave her life to Christ and lived out her faith daily. A longtime member of Westside Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, Alabama, she loved her church family and found great joy in serving the Lord.

She devoted her professional life to the Decatur community as a social worker at the Wallace Center and the Community Development Department (CDD). Her work reflected her deep compassion for others and her lifelong commitment to helping those in need. In her commitment to community, Carolyn was an esteemed member of Elizabeth Chapter #40. She also served as a former Worthy Matron of Purity Chapter #34, Order of the Eastern Star, a Prince Hall Affiliation in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Carolyn was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, where her sass, laughter, and love of friendship shined brightly.

She took immense pride in her family, especially her grandchildren, who she adored beyond measure. Her laughter, playful spirit, and joyful presence created memories her family will treasure forever.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Louise Jefferson and Levi Nance; siblings Stephanie Nance and Butchie Nance; beloved granddaughter Mykah Nance; and her loving stepchildren Gail Foster and Frank Foster.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and resilience. She is survived by her children: Audrey Nance of Huntsville, AL; James Nance of Edmond, OK; and Herbert Nance (Janice). She also leaves behind stepchildren who she loved as her own: Louise Watson, Marvaline Caudle, Gloria Hayden, Anne Hampton, Angie Chapman, Cedrick Turner, and Albert Turner. Her love shined brightest in her relationship with her special granddaughters, LaHermosa Foster, PaQuardrian Parks, and Ashley Foster, who will forever carry her love in their hearts. Carolyn shared a lifelong bond with her dear friend, Betty Troupe, marked by love, loyalty, and countless memories, along with a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
