Mr. Charles Erskin Lewis, Jr was born on June 5, 1943 in Talucah, (Morgan County), Alabama, to Ms. Eula D Rodgers and Mr. Charles Lewis, Sr. He departed this life one February 11, 202 at the Decatur Rehab Center in Decatur, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Lewis at an early age found the Lord and joined the Mount Pleasant M.B. Church while still living in Talucah, AL he began his early childhood education at the Leadus Elementary School there.

Charles was the first born of seven children of his mother. He took pride in being “Big Brother” to four brothers and two sisters.

Charles transitioned from Alabama to Albion, Michigan where he began a new journey with new experiences flowing into his life.  In his new world he continued his education while making new friends and settling into manhood. Charles entered into the work force early and as he matured in age his work ethics matured with him until he became par excellence in whatever he did. He was a hardworking, self-made man.

Charles met and married Ms. Bernadine Kemp Lewis. This union was blessed with five children. Two boys and three girls.

During this period in his life Charles moved to Kalamazoo, MI, settled his family and connected himself and them to the Calvary Bible Baptist Church.  HE was a man of strength, courage and fortitude.  He fought through many challenges in his life, the last one included his extended illness. He smiled through some, frowned through some and growled through some, all while trying to maintain some form of independence and keep a piece of himself.

He worked at General Motors in Michigan and was able to transfer to General Motors in Decatur, Alabama and worked until retirement. Now back home in Talucah, a place he loved, he built a house on the old Rodgers home spot. Reconnected to the Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church, entered rigorously into their building program, Bible Study, became a Deacon of the church and a community leader. He was a faithful member until illness and death. His journey ended where it began and is now completed, he has transcended to his heavenly home never to return no more.
