Charso Bates Obituary

Graveside Service for Ms. Charso Maurice Bates, 43 of Decatur, Alabama  will be noon Thursday at Decatur City Cemetery with the Reverend Arthur Warrior officiating. Public viewing will be Wednesday, from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Reynolds Funeral Home.

On January 3, 1977, Charso Maurice Bates was born to Lillie Mae Felton-Bates and Charles (Angela) Elliott both of Decatur, AL.  She was the baby of eight children.  On November 5, 2020 ancestors welcomed her home and surrounded her with love. She was welcomed by her oldest sister, Diane Marie Bailey and her niece, Little Miss Destiney “Dee Dee” Bates, who preceded her in death.

The Boss Lady

She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Davis Temple P.B. Church. She later united with Progressive  Christian Outreach Ministries.

Charso was a graduate of Decatur High School. She was a Master Cosmetologist, graduating from Calhoun and Drake Technical Colleges, obtaining a degree from both schools and was also an instructor at both schools.  She was self-employed as a Cosmetologist.

Charso was very outspoken, passionate and destined for greatness.  Her personality and smile would make anyone’s day.  In her words, she was here to Help, Heal, and Reveal.  She moved in LOVE & made sure everyone knew it.  We all will miss her.

She leaves to cherish her memory with love; her son, Devonta Cortez Bates; her daughter, Justice Kearra Bates; grandchildren, Jayden Bates, Gabriel Bates, A’mourah Bates, Brax’Ton Brown, Kaegan Brown and Tyshawn McCloud; her parents; six sisters, Sharon Bates, Angela Bates, Telisua Bates, Denise Bates, Monica Bates and Victoria “Nikki” Elliott all of Decatur, AL; two brothers, Isreal Bates and Charles Elliott, Jr. both of Decatur, AL; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
