David Howell Norwood, Jr.
May 20, 1963 – February 26, 2025
David Howell Norwood, Jr., affectionately known as “Stump,” of Arley, Alabama, passed away on February 26, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering kindness.
A man of deep faith and an even deeper heart, David lived life to the fullest. Whether serving as an Officer in the Army Reserve, coaching high school football, teaching special education for over 25 years, or guiding clients as a licensed realtor, he poured his soul into everything he did. A true friend for life, he was passionate about people and never hesitated to open his heart and home to those in need.
David was a fierce competitor—whether on the football field, at the lake with a fishing rod in hand, or in the kitchen cooking up something amazing. His infectious laughter, dynamic personality, and genuine spirit made him unforgettable. He was solid as a stump—strong, steady, and faithful—a man of his word in every sense.
Above all, David’s greatest joy was his family. He shared 27 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Tracy Henderson Norwood. He was the proud father of Chris Marchbanks and Prentice Taylor and the world’s greatest “Poppy” to Zackary Taylor and Patrice Robinson. He was reunited in heaven with his parents, David Howell Norwood, Sr., and Francis Layman Norwood, as well as his sister, Stacey Norwood.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on March 9, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Arley First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to your local high school football program or food bank—two causes he deeply believed in.
David Norwood didn’t just talk about love—he was love in action. He lived boldly, gave generously, and left an impact that will be felt for generations.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
— 2 Timothy 4:7-8
