Daniel Weaver Obituary

Daniel Joe Forrest Weaver age 87 of Athens, Alabama, In the presence of family died peacefully of natural causes at 7:00PM on Wednesday May 7, 2025, at the home of his stepdaughter in Athens, Alabama. Dan was born November 13, 1937, in Muskegon Michigan to George and Nellie Weaver who preceded him.

An only child, Dan grew up and graduated from Muskegon High School in 1956. After high school, Dan married Darlene May Roberts with whom he had three children. During his marriage to Darlene, Dan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1962 and began a career as a chemist, a manager, and a salesman. His intellect, dedication and hard work lead him to work for multiple corporations such as Alcoa, Anaconda Wire and Cable, Rae Magnet Wire, Kay Industrial Diamond, and Purdue University. Later in his career, Dan established Weaver Enterprises which specialized in providing custom grinding solutions. His expansive career allowed him to live in Louisville, KY, St. Charles, IL, and Lafayette, IN.

In 1992 Dan married Barbara Jane Tinley/Gilpatrick with whom he moved to Decatur, Alabama in 2006. In his youth Dan enjoyed sports and academics. As an adult Dan loved golf, stamp collecting, coin collecting, and gardening. Throughout his life he was an avid reader with a penchant toward biographies. He taught his children and grandchildren the importance of education and encouraged them to further their education. However, the thing Dan was most passionate about was coffee. He loved his percolator and could often be found at Waffle House with his friends drinking gallons of strong black coffee and trading stories. He loved people and treated everyone he met with kindness and appreciation. His ability to connect with people made him a great friend and a great salesman. It’s been said he could sell sand to an Egyptian, and ice to an Eskimo.

In addition to his parents Dan is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Jane, and stepson Welker Lee Gilpatrick.

Dan is survived by his daughter, Debra Sue Snyder; his sons Scott Daniel and George William Weaver; his daughter-in-law Nancy Weaver; his step-daughter Laura (John) Fuller; his grandchildren Kellie (Brandon) Jeralds, Brian (Abby) Weaver, Justin (Loren) Fuller, Kevin Weaver (Cierra), Kyra Fuller, Ethan (Kayla) Fuller, Logan Weaver; and his great-grandchildren Kylie and Parker Jeralds; and Ezra and Lilah Fuller.

Dan requested his cremated remains rest beside those of his loving wife Barbara.

Dan and his family are sincerely grateful for the loving care provided by Morningside Assisted Living, Decatur Morgan Hospital, Athens Health and Rehab, and Hospice of North Alabama.
