Carlisa was a remarkable individual, born DeCarlos Raymone Swoopes in Decatur, Alabama on October 21, 1980 to Juanita Swoopes and the late Troy Burgess. Carlisa passed away at the age of 43 on March 8, 2024 in Decatur, Alabama.

She was a beloved daughter, sister, friend, and inspiration to many. Despite facing challenges in her life, she had a vibrant spirit that was shown throughout her life. As Carlisa grew older, she transitioned into her true self as a transgender female, bravely embracing her identity and living her life with authenticity, resilience, and bravery. Carlisa was a kind and compassionate soul who always went out of her way to support those around her. Her infectious laughter, unique tone of voice, distinguished walk, and vibrant spirit brought joy to all who knew her. She was passionate about equality and inclusion, breaking down barriers, and inspiring others to live authentically. She will always be remembered for her unwavering courage and determination, inspiring many to live their lives truthfully and with pride. Her favorite catchphrase was “Get it right,” and she was always quick to correct and educate those who didn't understand her rainbow personality.

She was preceded in death by: father, Troy Burgess; grandparents, Willard and Parceanur Burgess, Georgette McDaniel, Washington Brooks Swoopes Jr., and a bonus grandmother in love, Barbara Ann Swoopes.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and acceptance that will be cherished forever by: her mother, Juanita Turner Swoopes; sisters, Atroya Swoopes, Ashley Swoopes both of Huntsville, AL, and Tiffaney (Terry) Lard of Birmingham, AL; brothers, Bryant Swoopes and Traruan (Lekeshia) Fuqua both of Decatur, Alabama and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.

Although she may no longer be with us, Carlisa's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a true inspiration, a beacon of hope, and a symbol of love and acceptance. May she Rest in Peace.
