Della Mae (Hood) Ashford

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Della Mae Hood Ashford, 96 of Courtland, Alabama will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at Emmanuel Christian Center in Leighton, Alabama with the Minister Henry Billen eulogizing and the Bishop Lonnie Freeman officiating.  Inhumation will be in Courtland Cemetery.  The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral.  Public viewing will be Tuesday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and the family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Reynolds Funeral Home.

Mother Della Mae (Hood) Ashford was born on February 29th, 1928 in Lawrence County, Alabama to Cole and Leanna Fonzie Hood. She departed this life on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Decatur Morgan Hospital in Decatur, Alabama.

She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and served as a faithful member and Mother at Emmanuel Christian Center in Leighton, AL. She was fully devoted to serving God and her family. 

She enjoyed playing crossword puzzles, riding her stationary bike and most of all spending time with her family as the matriarch. She was surrounded by love from her family and all of those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willie Daniel Ashford; and her sons, Curtis, Willie C, Richard, Tommy and Percy.

She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Janiel (Henry) Billen, Leanna Marshall both of North Courtland, AL and Dorothy (Willie) King of Town Creek, AL; one sister, Irene Johnson of Muscle Shoals, AL; sisters-in-law,  Rebecca Hood and Sallie Hood both of Town Creek, AL; one brother-in-law, Nathan Wilson of Cleveland, OH; daughters-in-law, Kathy Ashford and Vera Swoopes both of Decatur, AL; a special friend; Shirley Redus of Athens, AL 19 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
