Mrs. Delores McVay Brown was born on April 11, 1950 in Decatur, Alabama to the late John Allen McVay and Juanita Sanders McVay. Her mother died while she was young and she was reared and nurtured by her adorable grandmother, the late Mrs. Velma Irvin. She departed this life on April 30, 2020 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus.
Delores was educated in the Decatur City School System and was a graduate of Lakeside High School. She attended Calhoun College. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Westside M.B. Church.
Delores was retired from Decatur General Hospital where she was an ICU Clerk. Everyone there loved Delores and there were no questions that she thought that she in charge of the ICU Department. After all she loved being in charge of everything as her family will attest. She was a loving and straightforward person that will be missed by all that knew her.
She was preceded in death by: her son, Roderick Brown; parents, John and Juanita Sanders McVay; grandmother, Mrs. Velma Irvin; and brother, John Earl McVay.
She is survived by: her daughter, Dermietrice “Me-Me” Birdsong (Eric) of Decatur; eight grandchildren, Jalen, Alisha, Eric Jr., Kierra, Miya, Morgan, Joshua and Roderick Jr; five great grandchildren, Kaleb, Kameron, Chirstopher, Eric III and Zoey; one daughter-in-law, Rena Brown of Madison; and a special niece, Yolanda Baker of Decatur; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020 by the family.
