Delores (Simpson) Swope was born in Muscle Shoals, Alabama on January 10,1940 to the late George Simpson, Sr. and Henrietta Carter. She was one of five children in which two preceded her in death. Delores accepted Christ at any early age and was a faithful member of her church, Pentecostal House of Prayer under the Leadership of the late Bishop A.C. Strong, Sr. She worked as a house worker taking care of the elderly. Delores was the epitome of what it meant to show and give love. She instilled in us to always love one another, to always stick together and to always treat others how we would want to be treated. She was affectionately known as “Granny” to all because everyone saw her as a grandmother figure. Delores went to her eternal home in heaven on July 4, 2024.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, George Simpson, Sr., and Henrietta Carter Patton; husband, Willie Clarence Swope, Sr.; brothers, James E. Simpson, Sr. and George Simpson, Jr.; children, Gertie Swoopes, Shannon Swope, and Willie Clarence Swope, Jr.; and sons-in-law, Wes Swoopes and Davis Jordan, II.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: five daughters, Wanda Utley (Thomas), Annie Franklin Jordan (Davis) both of Decatur, Alabama, Ester Franklin, Jennifer Franklin, Harriet Simmons (Lee) all of Knoxville, Tennessee; two brothers, Kenneth Simpson (Earlean) of Lima, Ohio, Donnie Burgess (Kelly) of Tampa, Florida; 20 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and family members.
