A Celebration of Life for Mr. Demetrius Harris, 41 of Athens, Alabama will be 2:00 pm, Saturday at Greater Salem A.M.E. Zion Church in Panola, Alabama with the Reverend Arthur L.Gilliam III, officiating. Reynolds Funeral Home is directing.
Demetrius Dorain Harris entered into eternal peace on Monday, July 9, 2018, at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Demetrius was born to Howard L. Harris and Wyomia G. Harris on August 30, 1976, in Eutaw, Alabama. Demetrius was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Lee Harris, Jr.
Demetrius began his academic career at Gainesville Headstart. He later attended North Sumter Jr. High School and graduated from Livingston High School in Livingston, Alabama. Demetrius went on to attend Alabama A & M University, in Normal Alabama. During his years at Livingston High School and at A & M, Demetrius continued to maintain contact with fellow classmates whom he had established lifelong relationships.
Shortly after college, Demetrius began his professional career doing what he loved, commercial truck driving. Demetrius began his career working for MS Carriers (now Swift) then moved on to work for Averitt Express. Throughout his years with Averitt, Demetrius traveled the country and met some wonderful friends along the way, many of whom he loved dearly and called family. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and weapons enthusiast.
Demetrius is survived by his loving wife, Denean W. Harris, a son Devante V. Robinson, and a grandson Jordan I. Johnson. Demetrius is also survived by his loving parents, Howard L. Harris and Wyomia G. Harris of Gainesville, AL; his brother, Abera Peters of Gainesville, AL; his sister, Katherine R. Harris (Rico) of Aiken, SC; seven Aunts--Sedora Conley of Orlando FL, Martha Gholston of Chicago, IL, Patricia Woodruff (Tommy) of Crawfordville, GA, Catherine Butler (Jimmy) of Crawfordville, GA, Linda Johnson of Crawfordville, GA, Caroline Chapman of Crawfordville, GA, and Aquanetta Stephens (Bobby) of Crawfordville, GA; five uncles--John Gholston of Gainesville, AL, James Harris of Winder, GA, Freddie L. Howell (Mary) of Crawfordville, GA, James Howell (Bernice) of Crawfordville, GA and Undra Stephens of Crawfordville, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends who will miss him greatly.
