Homegoing Service for Mrs. Dorothy Jean Chapman, 82 of Decatur, Alabama will be noon Monday, January 17, 2022 at United Pentecostal Jubilee House of Prayer with Bishop Thomas D. Strong officiating.  Inhumation will follow in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Sunday January 16, 2022 from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Reynolds Funeral Home.  Mrs. Chapman passed on January 10, 2022 at Decatur Health and Rehab. 

Dorothy Jean Cooper-Chapman was born December 23, 1939 in Morgan County, AL, to the late Edward and Rose Marie Cooper. She departed this life on January 10, 2022 in Decatur, AL.

She married Hezekiah Chapman, Jr. on March 4, 1972 and to this union they were the parents of eleven children, Edward Stegall (Melissa), Perry Chapman, Elaine Townsend (Michael), Jerome Chapman (Annie), Sharon Chapman (Micheal Salery) Juliette Chapman, Mario Chapman, Esther Stevens, Robert Chapman, Sam Chapman, Victoria Stegall.

She was a kind, loving mother to many Foster children including Tina, Angela, Eric and Jamal Simpson.

She started nursing in 1974 and retired at the age of 75, also receiving two degrees in Psychology and Theology from Athens State University.

Mrs. Chapman was a member of Pentecostal House of Prayer under the leadership of the late Bishop A. C. Strong and later moved to Fellowship with Apostolic Church of God under the leadership of the late Bishop Herman Finley.  She then returned to United Pentecostal Jubilee House of Prayer. Sister Chapman was a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible school director, a missionary and taught nursing classes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister,  Dorian Elizabeth Cooper; two sons, Larry Chapman and Edward Stegall.

Mrs. Chapman also leaves to cherish her memory, 32 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren, besides her foster children; a sister, Ida Lee Cooper (James); a host of other relatives and many friends.
