Graveside Service celebrating the life of Mrs. Dorothy Mae Gill Gilbert, 90 of Decatur, Alabama will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Calvary Memorial Gardens with Dr. Howard Middlebrooks officiating. Public viewing will be Monday from 1-6 at Reynolds Funeral Home.
On Friday, October 16, 2020 at her home in Decatur, AL, the sweet spirit of Dorothy Mae Gill - Gilbert entered into eternal rest. Dorothy Mae Gilbert was born June 28, 1930 in Morgan County, AL to Ivory and Mattie McDonald Gill.
She was a faithful member of St. Peter M.B. Church for over 80 years where she enjoyed bible study, vacation bible school and Sunday school.
Dorothy was affectionately called “Madea” because of her nurturing and caring personality. “Madea”was a mother and grandmother to all who knew her. She was known for cooking a hot meal, planting flowers and shopping. “Madea” was very family-oriented. She was a jewelry and make-up fanatic.
She graduated from Morgan County Training School. Dorothy retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as a machine operator.
She was preceded in death by: her son, George "Alvin" Gilbert; her parents; siblings, Hazel McDaniel and Lafayette Gill.
She leaves to cherish her loving and devoted daughter; Linda Gilbert Langford of Decatur, AL; stepson: Gregory (Carol) Gilbert of Hermosa, CA; three, devoted grandsons; Tori Moseley of Madison, AL, Kevis Owens of Decatur, AL and Everett ( Myisha ) Walton of Athens, AL; two special great-grandchildren, Sean Moseley of Harvest, AL and Adrianna Tapscott of Athens, AL; nine great- grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two caring god-daughters, Gloria (Jim) Brown of Decatur, AL and Theresa Bates of Decatur, AL; god-granddaughter, Nikki Gaiter (Larry) Parker and children; one sister, Catherine Garth; special nephew, Curtis Fletcher and a host of nieces , nephews, cousins and friends.
