Graveside Service for Mrs. Elnora Griffin, 84 of Decatur, Alabama will noon Friday, October 1, 2021 at Calvary Memorial Gardens. Public viewing will be Thursday from 1:00 pm till 6:00 pm at Reynolds Funeral Home. Mrs. Griffin transitioned on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Lawrence Medical Center in Moulton, Alabama.
Elnora L. Griffin was born in Decatur, AL on March 10, 1937 to Frank Lanier and Julia Mae Ballentine. She departed this life on September 27, 2021 at Lawrence Medical Center in Moulton, AL.
Elnora L. Griffin graduated from Lakeside High School in Decatur, AL. She went on to attend Alabama A&M University in Normal, AL for two years.
She accepted Christ at a very early age at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ in Decatur, AL for the majority of her adult life. She truly loved the Lord. She with many Gospel groups throughout her life. To name a few Decatur Community Gospel Choir, The Excellsors and the Griffinairs.
Elnora's work history goes back to the Elegant Shop, Monsanto Chemical, taught Physical Education at elementary schools and her last position was Morgan County Department as a Jailer. She was the first Black jailer to that department.
Elnora L. Griffin was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Theon Griffin; three siblings, Gene Lanier, Frank Ferry Lanier and Frank Dillard.
Elnora L. Griffin leaves to cherish her memory; four children, Belinda (Ray) Owens; Orlandus (Jwana) Griffin; Paula (Rodney) Woodall all of Decatur; and Mark (Carolyn) Griffin of Huntsville, AL; sibling, Carmellia D. Ward; honorary sister, Myrtle Harris of Detroit, MI; sister-in-law, Pauline Lanier of Decatur; 17 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
