Emma "Eve" (Davis) Caudle

Funeral Service for Mother Emma "Eve" Davis Caudle, 82 of Decatur, Alabama will be 11:00AM Friday April 24, 2026, at St. Stephens P.B. Church with the Rev. Christopher Collins officiating. Inhumation will follow in Decatur City Cemetery. 

Emma “Eve” Louise Davis Caudle was born on December 29, 1943 in Decatur, Alabama, to Pearlean Bridgeforth and Henry Louis Davis. Raised in a Christian home, she developed a deep faith early in life that would guide her every step.

Emma graduated from Lakeside High School in 1962 and later moved to Chicago, Illinois, to attend Cook County School of Nursing. She was first united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, and from that union, two sons were born: Alphonso Pettus, Jr., and Alafonte' Pettus. In 1975,

Emma met Levert Caudle in Triana, Alabama. She married the love of her life on October 1, 1988, at St. Stephen Primitive Baptist Church. Together, they shared 37 years of unwavering love, companionship, and cherished memories.

Emma was a faithful and devoted member of St. Stephen Primitive Baptist Church. She served diligently in many roles, including Sunday school teacher, St. Stephen P.B. Church Choir #2 Member, President of the Junior Usher Ministry, Kitchen Ministry Assistant, Director of Vacation Bible School, and President of the Mother Ministry. She also served as Vice President of the Tri-State Deaconess and Mother Ministry and was honored as Queen in both the Women's Congress of the Indian Creek P.B. Association and the Tri-State P.B. Association.

Emma dedicated over 37 years of service at Decatur General Behavioral Health Hospital as a secretary. She learned many different duties as secretary, trained new employees, and prayed with anyone who asked although it was not permitted.

Beyond her career and church, Emma was deeply committed to her community. She was a devoted member of the Elizabeth Chapter No. 40 Order of Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliated, where she served as Past Matron and Worthy Matron. She was also active in the Mizpah Grand Chapter and served as President of the Twilighters Civic Club.

Known for her smile, love for her family and friends, and her giving heart, her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They all knew they were "The Favorite," each one in their own special way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearlean Bridgeforth Polk and Henry Louis Davis, and sister, Hattie Mae “Pig” Shackelford.

She leaves a legacy of love to be honored and cherished by her devoted husband, Levert Caudle; adored sons, Alphonso Pettus, Jr., and Alafonte' Pettus; beloved grandchildren, Javon Reyes (Juan), Jazz Pettus (Tiffany), Jerrica Pettus, Kamron Robinson, Megan Powell, Jarrell Priest, Janell Ford (Fernando), Makayla Pettus, and Jaylynn Pettus; and nine treasured great grandchildren. She held a very special place in her heart for her beautiful, precious, and devoted daughter-in-law, Makeba Orr-Pettus, whom she loved dearly. She is also lovingly remembered by her brothers, Thad Davis (Adieline), William "Earl" Caudle (Revelar), Michael Harris, Milton Harris, Jr., Donald Harris, and Curtis Harris, Sr.; sisters, Barbara Scruggs, Luvada Warren, Cyntlia Rice, Teresa Blackmon (Sidney), Crystal Flynn (Juan), Kimberly Harris, and Yolanda Harris; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.

Emma's life was a testimony of faith, service, and love. She lived with grace, gave without hesitation, and loved without limits. Her legacy will continue in every life she touched.
