Public viewing will be Wednesday from 1pm until 6pm in the Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel.   Ms. Gaiter transitioned on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Decatur Health and Rehabilitation.

Emma Jean Gaiter was born in Trinity, AL to the late Tommie Hughes Gaiter and Edna Mae Jones-Gaiter. She transitioned from her earthly body on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Decatur Health and Rehab.

Emma Jean Gaiter attended Tennessee Valley High School, and later went on to become a certified nurse’s assistant. After her training, she worked diligently at the former Sunbridge nursing home, where she received awards and recognition for her excellent patient care. Emma was employed at Sunbridge for 18 years until her health declined.

Emma was baptized in Jesus’ name at a young age, and served as a member of Pentecostal House of Prayer under Bishop A.C. Strong and later Bishop T. D. Strong. Her last membership and devotion belonged to Christ Temple Holiness Church under the direction of Dr. Chinetha Baker. Emma would make a way out of no way to make it to church until her mobility would not allow it. She would then attend church where she lived as a resident, enjoying testimony service as well as prayer time. If there was anything that Emma loved, it was God, her family, and her work. Her house was the drop off spot for her nieces and grandchildren.

Emma loved to cook, even as much as taking cooking classes in her younger days as a mom. Emma had a huge heart for God. She learned to drive later than others in life, but she didn’t miss a “singing” or Pentecostal night service, as well as making sure all of her girls were in attendance. Emma had a warm, sweet presence about her with a little spice on the side. She could be quiet, or she could be a mess depending on who is telling the story. A few other things Emma loved were Gospel music, Alabama football, poetry, crossword puzzles, and her bible.

Emma was preceded in death by: three loving sisters, Essie Lee Jones-McDaniel, Minister Bettie Jean Gaiter-Grizzard, and Tomella Gaiter-Sykes; two loving brothers, Johnny Ray Gaiter and Elder Vernon Gaiter; a devoted godmother, Louise Dillard-Clopton.

Emma leaves to cherish her memory: four  daughters ; Dorian  Gaiter- “Nikki” (Larry) Parker Opelika, AL, Latorya Shanae Gaiter of Huntsville, AL, Candice Gaiter of Decatur, Patricia Gaiter-Roberts (Jarad) of Madison, AL; two granddaughters, Adrianna Tapscott, and Atroya Sutherlin; four grandsons; Elijah Edwards, Gavin Roberts, Gage Roberts and Guyis Roberts; four great grandsons, Kylan Sutherlin, Kade Sutherlin,  Kaine Sutherlin, and Kyser Tapscott; a devoted sister, Mary Ann Gaiter-Amerson (Tyrone) of Decatur; four loving brothers, Richard (Louise) Jones, Tommie Lee Gaiter Sr., Willie Edward Gaiter Sr. (Shirley), and Milton Ray Gaiter all of Decatur; two aunts, Helen Gaiter-Jones, Chicago, IL, Mary Alice of Decatur; brother-in-law, Tommy Sykes of Decatur, two devoted nieces, Carline McDaniel, and Danielle Sykes; a special niece, Tara Garner; a great host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, three special friends; Karen Griffin, Lorinda Ellison, and Anita Stevens-Bedford.
