Funeral Service for Mrs. Erika La'Tise Batts Miller,46, of Spokane, WA, formerly of Decatur, AL will be noon Saturday at Bell P.B. Church with The Reverend Montrice Bethea Officiating. Inhumation will follow in Calvary Memorial Gardens.

Erika L. Batts-Miller, cherished daughter of Anthony and Linda Batts, passed away on July 15, 2026. Born in Savannah, Georgia on February 19, 1980, Erika was raised in Spokane, Washington, surrounded by family who shaped her gentle spirit and strong sense of love.

As she grew older, Erika built her life in Decatur, Alabama, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and family traditions. She spent more than twenty years in Alabama, close to relatives who loved her deeply. In 2023, she returned to Spokane, reconnecting with the place and friends who helped shape her early life.

Erika was a devoted mother, and her greatest joy came from her two children, Gavin B. Miller and Aubrey M. Miller. Everything she did—every sacrifice, every choice—was rooted 
in her love for them. Erika’s life was a reflection of family: staying connected, showing up and loving without hesitation.

Erika confessed hope in Christ at an early age and served as a youth assistant at Bethel AME Church in Spokane, Washington.

Education and Achievements: Lewis & Clark High School — Class of 1998; Faulkner University — B.A. in Business Administration, 2014; Better Health Together — Community Health Worker Certificate, 2024.

Marriage: Married to Melvin Miller (ex-husband) on October 4, 2014, who remained friends.

Erika chose to work in Corporate America where she held several positions with different companies. Although with her challenging illness, she still managed to treat everyone with professional courtesy and kindness. Erika was the type of person that made lasting acquaintances and friendships that they remain in contact with her throughout her life. Erika was a loving, encouraging, outgoing, caring, person who never met a stranger.

Hobbies and Interests: Lover of all music genres; played the violin; worked with youth, cheer teams and dance groups; supporter of her children’s little league baseball/softball; loved to cook and share meals with family; Girl Scouts; loved to travel and experience new cultures and foods.

Personality: Loving, encouraging, outgoing, caring, a person who never met a stranger.

Erika was preceded in death by her father: Anthony Batts, Sr., nephew, Marquis Batts; grandparents, John and Evelyn (Jarmon) Williams, Esther Taylor Batts and Percy Williams; two aunts, Ann Batts Watkins and Cerissa Lockett; uncles, Charles Brown and James Brown; and a special cousin, Michelle Morrow.

She is survived by: a son, Gavin Miller of Spokane, WA; a daughter, Aubrey Miller of Spokane, WA; her mother, Linda Brown Batts of Decatur, AL; brothers, Brandon Batts, Sr., of Spokane, WA, Anthony Batts, Jr., of Decatur, AL; sisters, Kiara McClary of Decatur, AL, Shalece Gill of Decatur, AL; aunts, Lafreda James, Cathy (Rickey) Miller, Sandra Garth, Susan Williams of Decatur, AL, Jennifer (Marlowe) Parker of Madison, AL; uncles, Erskine (Olivia) Brown of Athens, AL, Dennis (Deborah) Brown, Tony Brown, John Williams of Decatur, AL, Randy (Rosemary) Woodruff of Madison, AL; nephews, Gabriel Kerbs of Portland, OR, Jaron Batts of Spokane, WA, Malique Batts of Newark, OH, Brandon Batts, Jr., of Atlanta, GA, Josh Malone and Kyrie Malone both of Decatur, AL; and GaKobi Gill and GaBron Gill both of Madison, AL; and nieces, Ashley Batts of Louisville, KY, Imani Munyan of Madison and Gizelle Gill both of Madison, AL.
