Ernestine Robinson Obituary

A Service of Love and Remembrance for Mrs. Ernestine C. Robinson, 77 of Moulton, Alabama will be noon Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Freeman Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend Timothy Perryman officiating.  Inhumation will follow in Moulton Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5-7 at Reynolds Funeral Home.  Public viewing will be Monday from 3-7 and Tuesday from 10-5 at the funeral home.

Mrs.  Ernestine C.  Robinson was born October 16, 1941, to the union of the late Sarah Dukes Coleman and Ernest Coleman in Fairfield, Alabama. She departed this life on October 10, 2019 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-DGH Campus in Decatur, Alabama.

She confessed Christ at an early age.  She graduated from Fairfield Industrial High School.   She then attended Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama, where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. While attending Miles College, she was a dedicated participant in the Civil Rights Movement, being jailed over eleven times along with the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.

In 1967, she moved to Moulton, Alabama, where she taught at Moulton High School, under the leadership of Principal Mr. C.C. Chun.  Mrs. Robinson would go on to teach at East Lawrence High School for over thirty years, where she touched the lives of generations of families in the Tennessee Valley. She believed that education was the key to a successful and meaningful life and helped to inspire a thirst for educational excellence in countless students. As a fearless orator, educator and advocate for the voiceless, the mission of justice and racial equality would define Mrs. Robinson for the remainder of her life.  She tirelessly gave of her time especially whenever asked to speak about Black History and its impact on American culture. Hard work and sacrifice were the hallmarks of her teaching career, as she often said, “Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die!” Even after retiring from teaching she continued volunteering her time and speaking out against inequality.

Mrs. Robinson was preceded in death by her mother, father, and siblings Tommie, Johnnie, David and Katie Mae.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her three devoted daughters, Anne Michelle Taylor (Al), Kimberly Taylor, and her faithful caregiver, Kelly Holland (Paul);  a beloved son, Alex Maurice Taylor (Della); her three cherished siblings, sisters Rubye Jones and Teno Allen and brother the Reverend Frank Dukes;  grandchildren, Alex, Sarah, Shanda, Tevin, Johnus and Jordan, along with great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Many knew her as educator, speaker, “outside agitator”, and professional colleague, but to her family she was “Stine”, a woman who tried as hard as she could to do all the good that she could. As we grieve, the family would like to thank all of you for your expressions of sympathy and love. We ask that you continue to pray our strength in the Lord during this difficult time.
