Graveside and Committal Services for Mrs. Flora Ruth Newman will be noon Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Oakwood Cemetery in Sheffield, Alabama. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service. The family has entrusted local services to Reynolds Funeral Home.
We Celebrate the life of Flora Ruth Newman, 102, of Cleveland Ohio, who passed away on April 4, 2024. She was born to parents William Wesley Newton Jr, and Amanda Crittenden Newton, on April 19, 1921, in Killen, Alabama.
She was baptized at an early age and had been living for the Lord ever since. She was very active in her Church in Sheffield, Alabama serving as the President of the Usher Board for many years. She was also a proud member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church. After leaving high school, she was employed as a cook and housekeeper.
Flora was a giving, caring, and strong-willed person who loved life and had the funniest sense of humor. Her presence always filled the room, her stories kept you captive and wanting to hear more and her memory was outstanding up to her death. She lived through multiple wars, presidents, The Great Depression, Jim Crow, and the Civil Rights Movement. She gave life her best and lived it her way. Flora was loved by so many and will be truly missed but never forgotten.
Flora had seven children: Christine Robinson, Glenn Hardin, Eileen Lofton, Bobbi Kelly, and Robert Newman Jr., Marrell Newman Sr. She was also the baby of fourteen brothers and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Newman Sr, daughters Christine Robinson, and Vivian Abernathy, son Glenn Hardin, and 13 brothers and sisters.
Flora is survived by her: daughters, Eileen Lofton, and Bobbi Kelly; sons, Robert Newman Jr. and Marrell Newman Sr, She also left behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
