Obituary

A life filled with hard-work, joyfulness, and happiness, which exemplified courage and strength was the life of Frank (more affectionally known as Dyke) Burgin. On January 15, 2023, he left this earthly home and arrived at his forever heavenly home. Dyke Burgin was born on September 9, 1939 to the late Tom and Ora Mae Burgin in Wheeler, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Tom, J. B, Arthur Thomas, Phil, and James Burgin; sisters, Purcell Harris and Annie Cole, and son, Frank Burgin, Jr.

Bro. Burgin accepted Christ at an early age and joined Spring Creek Missionary Baptist Church but later united with Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board.

He was employed with Wolverine Tube as a machine operator for over 31 years. He was dedicated to his job and rarely missed a day

Dyke was a loving kind-hearted person that loved his family and community. He loved driving around his community on his ranger visiting his friend. He often gave life-long lessons to his children and relatives that inspired their lives. Dyke was a rock and role model to this family.
He was a master gardener and shared the vegetables with the community and the elderly. He loved planting and growing corn, collards, and turnip greens. He was very proud to raise vegetables.

Mr. Burgin leaves to cherish his memory; his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Kathleen Burgin; two caring and dedicated sons; Julian Burgin (Monica) of Decatur, AL and Craig Swoope (Malinda) of Madison, AL; two daughters, Joyce Bevels and Janice Bevels both of Decatur, AL; two loving and committed grandchildren, Kiana Burgin of Houston, TX,  and Myles Burgin of Decatur, AL; two sisters, Ida Burgin and Willadene Nash; both of Hillsboro, AL;  grandchildren; Christopher, Tailor, Cameron, K’lebb and Daekwom;two special and dedicated nephews; Ronnie Cohen (Lucy) of Hillsboro, AL and Jerry Nash (Cynthia) of Decatur,  one brother-in-law; Nathaniel Thomas of New Roads, LA; one sister-in-law, Doris Williams of New Orleans, LA; two loyal and devoted friends; Duvel Clay and David Martin both of Hillsboro and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends.
