Gloria Dean (Owens) Young

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Gloria Young, 64, of Hillsboro, Alabama will be 11:00AM Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Wheeler Chapel Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Billy Ray Young and Bishop Thomas Davis officiating. Inhumation will follow in Owens Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Friday from 1:00PM until 5:00PM at Reynolds Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gloria Dean Owens Young was born on October 26, 1958 in Lawrence County, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Luther Owens, Sr., and Pearl Ella Owens Smith. She departed her earthly life on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center.

Gloria confessed Christ at an early age and joined Wheeler Chapel Church. While at Wheeler, she was a dedicated choir member. In 2000, she joined Hartselle First Missionary Baptist Church where she was a devoted first lady and a faithful member until her death. 

Gloria graduated from Courtland High School in 1977 in Courtland, Alabama. She married Billy Ray Young on July 22, 1977. They were married for 46 years, and to this union, three children were born. Gloria enjoyed shopping at her favorite store, New York and Company, and dining out with her baby sister, Sandra, and friends. She enjoyed making those around her laugh and feel special. She always made those around her know that she loved them and they mattered. She always left whoever she met with encouraging words.

Gloria was preceded in death by her daughter, Tiffany Young; granddaughter, Chloe Wilks, parents, her siblings, Alfonzo Owens, Sr., Sadie Latimer, Ida Pearl Robinson, Luther Owens, Jr., Mary Owens Gibson, and Sallie West.

Gloria leaves behind to cherish her memory: loving husband, Billy Ray Young; two daughters, Kimberly Wilks (Mike) and Jessica White (Keldric); three loving grandchildren, Isaiah Wilks, Josiah Wilks, and Nuri Rae White; siblings, Essie Dobbins of Decatur, Alabama, Mattie Benson of Hillsboro, AL, Annie Brown of Florence SC, Joe Owens(Mary Ann) of Hillsboro, AL, Clara Grayson (Cedric) of Decatur, AL, Sandra Wright (Kent) of Hillsboro, AL, and Wilbur Watkins (Edwina) of Hillsboro, AL; sisters-in-law, Iren Owens of Hillsboro, AL, Cynthia Owens of Fayetteville, TN, and Elaine Young of Hillsboro, AL; brothers-in-law, Wyatt Young, Jr. (Cordelia) of Hillsboro, AL, and Robert Young of Hillsboro, AL; a special son-in- love, Neil Sinclair (Nicole) of Texas; a special best friend, Denise Crutcher of Athens, AL; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that knew they all had a place in heart. She believed a beautiful soul is never forgotten, always remembered, and forever cherished.
