Hershel Johnson

Graveside service for Mr. Hershel Johnson,72, of Decatur, Alabama will be noon, Thursday at Minor Hill Cemetery with Rev. Michael Jones officiating. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Public viewing will be Wednesday from 1:00PM until 5:00PM at Reynolds Funeral Home. . 

Hershell Johnson was born on February 13, 1950, to the late Mrs. Sallie Mae Johnson Wilder (the late Mr. Herman Wilder and the late Mr. Thurman Sharpley). He received his wings on August 11, 2023 at Decatur Morgan Hospital in Decatur, Alabama.

He was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church in America in Decatur, Alabama until his health declined.

Mr. Johnson attended Morgan County Training School in Hartselle, Alabama. He was active in the Morgan County Training School Marching Band. He was a bass drum player.

Mr. Johnson was employed by the Cotton Gin in Decatur, Alabama. For many years, in his lifetime he worked at the Sugar Plant in Decatur, Alabama and was a truck driver for many years.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of many years, Mrs. Mary Ann Jones Johnson, one daughter, Deborah Johnson, one son, Lawrence Jones, brother-in-law, John Valentine.

.He leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Micheal Jones Johnson and Jim Mack Jones; one daughter, Angela Douglas, all of Decatur, Alabama; three devoted sisters, Mrs. Eleonia Valentine of Bronx, New York, Ms. Lena Mae Sharpley, and Ms. Doris Sharpley of Decatur, Alabama; grandchildren, Marshaun Jones, Kiara Jones, and Tarvaris Jones all of Decatur, Alabama; two nephews, Christopher Sharpley, Derrick Sharpley; one niece, Bianca Clark all of Decatur, Alabama; a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and close friends.
